Erie Elementary School’s Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope you have had a great week. I would like to share about an exciting new learning opportunity that we have implemented this week in grades 1-5. At our school, we want every child to grow and succeed. One way we support this is through WIN Time, which stands for “What I Need.”

WIN Time is a dedicated 30 minutes of the day when students receive targeted instruction based on their individual needs. Some children may work on building foundational skills, while others may be challenged with enrichment or extension activities. The goal is to make sure each student is getting exactly what they need to continue learning and moving forward.

We started WIN Time this week, and students are beginning to get used to their groups and the routines. Groups may change throughout the year as needs change, making this a flexible and responsive way to support learning. They may be with their homeroom teacher, another teacher in their grade level or other support staff during this time.

We wanted to make you aware of this as you may hear your child talking about “WIN” time or “going to WIN”. We’re excited about the growth we see during WIN time and appreciate your partnership as we work to meet the needs of all learners!

Thank you for all you do to partner with us and please reach out to your teacher or myself with any questions!

Gifted and Talented Referral

Each year, schools in St. Vrain Valley School District complete a process to identify students who demonstrate exceptional ability or performance in one or more academic and/or talent areas and may, therefore, qualify for Gifted/Talented educational services. These students usually perform at least two years above grade level in their strength area(s), and they require additional academic challenges in order to support their continued educational growth and progress.  In addition, they usually demonstrate characteristics of unique creativity and high motivation in their strength areas.

Referrals are open through the month of September and will close on the last day of the month. Referrals after that date will be addressed on a case by case basis. Completing a referral guarantees a review of the student profile to determine if testing is recommended for the student. The process for identification requires a body of evidence and often takes place throughout the school year.

The process takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.

If you would like to refer your student, please complete the referral form.

Important iPad Updates for the 2025–2026 School Year

St. Vrain’s District Technology Services has made several updates to student iPads for the upcoming school year to support a focused and secure digital learning environment both at school and at home. One key update is the implementation of a new internet filter, Securly, which adds an extra layer of protection to iPads by blocking certain types of websites.

Please complete the Erie Elementary School Student Support Survey. One for each child, in grades K-5, by Friday, September 5. Link to support survey

Elementary school is about academic excellence.  It is also about learning social skills, like making and keeping friends, emotional regulation, self-control, perspective taking and executive functioning skills like time-management and organization.  At the elementary level, we are building self-efficacy and sometimes we need a little help.

Counseling support at Erie Elementary School includes whole-class counseling lessons, small group and brief, solution-focused counseling opportunities with the goal of keeping students in the classroom, learning and relating to others appropriately.

This survey will help us assess the needs of grade levels and individual students, so that we can be proactive in our support.  Thank you for your participation.  Please contact Alissa Chute, School Counselor, with questions.
